Back to Paris

After our day at the beaches, we headed back to Paris cruising on the Seine River.  We stopped at the town of Les Andelys to see the impressive ruins of Chateau Gaillard, the stronghold built by Richard the Lionheart in the 12th century.  This is a fine example of Middle Ages European siege warfare construction.

A view of the town in Les Andelys

On Friday night we gathered to toast our memories and to say farewell to our new found friends during the Captain's Reception and and Farewell Dinner. The captain and his senior crew all came to the lounge to say farewell.

This is the inside of a boat on the waterfront at Conflans.  It serves as a church.

Saturday morning and we are in Conflans, a lovely waterfront town.  Linda and I were going on the tour to Palace of Versailles; but because I fell on Friday night and hit my head, we did not go. I am so glad that we didn't go, because the people who went had to wait over an hour in the cold, damp weather with nowhere to sit down until they could get into the palace.  Once again, the workers decided that they would support the strike by not opening the palace until 10:15, and it usually opens at 9:00.  So it was a big mess!  I didn't like the way my head hurt where I hit it, but at least I was warm and dry.  Linda went on the Conflans walking tour (for a little while - then she, Betty, and Wendy cut out and came back to the boat). They wanted to be warm and dry also.

So - after lunch we cruised through the afternoon, and arrived in Paris around 7:00.  We had packed and we ready for our last night with our new friends.  More pictures were made and some tears were shred (by me) as we said good-bye to the wonderful crew on the Viking Spirit.

Sunday morning - breakfast and then to the airport at 7:00 AM - time for a 9 hour flight, long but at least Linda and I are flying envoy so we had plenty of space to move around.  Another great adventure...........
