Friday, Sept. 23th, and we were on the island of Crete. Since I was not feeling up to par, in other words I WAS TIRED AND NEEDED REST!!!!!! Linda and I decided not to go to Knossos, our planned excursion for today. After talking with several of our travelers who did go, we found out that we did not miss anything and that it took a long, long time on a bus to get there.
Linda and I decided to visit the port town of Aghios Nikolaos on Crete for the day (or for 1/2 the day). We visited several of the shops, finding gifts for our family and friends, and had lunch at a lovely seaside cafe.
This is the first time that Ocean Princess has visited Crete; so we were very interested in the history of the island. This island was home to the Minoan civilization- an ancient culture that reached its zenith as Egypt's Middle Kingdom that flourished in the Nile Valley.
After returning to the ship it was time to check our folio (what we owe the ship), check the casino (what they owe us), and pack. So ---- off we went to complete our tasks!
A final dinner with our wonderful tablemates was next on our agenda. We have had a wonderful week sharing stories of our friends and families with the two couples from Melbourne, Australia, and with the sisters, one from Kentucky and one from California. After our good-byes with friends, crew, and the captain (I found him in the Casino Bar as he was "walking the ship" and received a hug and kisses, one on each cheek). Sorry Linda, you had already collected your earnings in the casino. However, I did not find Diego, my friend from Uraguay, who works on the ship.
Time for the last packing and putting the suitcases outside our stateroom- and off to bed - early morning coming up.......
