Well, today is Wednesday, October 20th, and we are cruising along the winding Seine River, past picturesque villages, rocky outcroppings ( the part of a rock formation that expends above the surface of the ground), and the Chateau Gaillard, which we will visit later in the week.
After lunch we disembark for a walking tour of this very important commercial city. Rouen, capital of Normandy, is the city where Joan of Arc was imprisoned, tried for heresy and burned at the stake in 1431. We visited the 14th century abbey where she was sentenced, and the Market Square where she was excuted. We also saw the Great Clock Tower, the wonderful Gothic cathedral, whose facade has graced many of Monet's paintings. Walking was not easy in Rouen, as all of their streets are cobblestones and are uneven.
This was our good town for shopping. Many souvenirs were bought by all of us. I have neglected to tell you that Linda and I have met 4 wonderful new friends: a mother and daughter from Maine and two friends from California. When we met on Sunday night there was an instance connection with these ladies, and we have spent many hours with them. They have helped to make this river cruise very pleasant for Linda and me.
