I Hit the Wall

Monday, we were in Itea, Greece.This is a very pretty island off the coast of the mainland of Greece.  Linda and I had scheduled an excursion to Delphi and the Archeological Museum.  At 12:30 off we headed in our motorcoach, along with 6-7 other buses to ascend the slopes of Mount Parnassus on the scenic drive to Delphi.  We saw lots and lots of lush olive groves and the sparkling blue Gulf of Itea below us as we made our way up the winding narrow road.

The archeological ruins of Delphi is as impressive today as it was in the days of Ancient Greece.  Our walking tour with a guide  traveled the Sacred Way to the Sanctuary of Apollo where Pythia the Oracle prophesized.  We were walking the "Sacred Way" and discovering the "Treasuries", small temples erected by the Greek city-states to commemorate important events in their history.  Here is where my problems began - it was HOT< HOT< HOT - with no breeze.  Ruins are covered in loose dirt - this doesn't work with my breathing; so half-way up I told Linda to go ahead that I was going to sit in the shade (what little I could find).  As you can imagine there were many, many stairs to climb, and I chose not to participate. I knew that I could not go any further and I was't going to try. OK, so I am a wimp!!!!!!!

When the group returned, I (and I wasn't the only one who didn't climb to the top) joined them for a visit to the Dephi Museum.  The stone Omphalos originally sat in the Sanctuary of Apollo and marked the center of the world (Linda made my picture with the Omphalos - to be posted later)

After a little shopping and a stop at a waterside cafe, we returned to the ship by tender.  We were very tired!!!!!!!!  We chose room service for dinner and a early bedtime; of course I only slept 4 hours and then woke up and could not go back to sleep.  O well - it was a good day.  Tomorrow we are off to Argostoli on the island of Cephalonia.

We have three of Langley Rehorn's letter dolls with us.  Yesterday Miss I went on an adventure to Itea.  (Pictures to follow) She had a great time and loved seeing all of the ruins of Delphi.
